Top 5 Rides at Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park is a British theme park that initially opened in 1979. Since 1979 the park has undergone many expansions, which have turned Thorpe Park into one of most popular theme parks in Europe. Located about 20 miles (32 km) from central London, this park is an easy visit for tourists. Thorpe Park is a roller coaster based park, often opting for horror themes. As a huge fan of both these things, the park provides many attractions that stand as contenders for this list.

5. Colossus

Colossus was the world’s first ten inversion roller coaster and still remains in the top ten roller coasters with the most inversions in the world. At 98ft high and 72 km/h, this roller coaster remained the coaster with the most inversions until 2013, where it was overtaken by Alton Towers’ The Smiler. It may no longer hold the record, but it still holds its own as a great coaster!

4. SAW-The Ride

Themed to the horror movie franchise Saw, this Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter takes riders through Jigsaw’s torture chamber. Complete with swinging pendulum blades, spike floors and giant rotating blades, this roller coaster is one of the best themed coasters I’ve personally ever ridden. SAW-The Ride also has a beyond vertical drop of 100 degrees, allowing you to truly experience the fear of the films.

3. Nemesis Inferno

The ever present debate in the UK theme park community, do you prefer Nemesis or Nemesis Inferno? While I may fall into the camp who prefer the former B&M invert, that’s not to say I don’t also adore Thorpe Park’s coaster. Nemesis Inferno takes guests through a steaming volcano at speeds of 80 kph. It may not be my favourite ‘Nemesis’, but it’s still certainly one of my favourites in the UK.

2.  Stealth

Taking riders from 0-130 kph in less than 2 seconds, Stealth is the fastest roller coaster in the UK. This Intamin hydraulic launch accelerator coaster rockets riders 205ft into the air. The birds-eye view of the park at the top is so stunning, you’ll almost forget your fear of heights if you have one. The negative g-forces on this ride provide a unique experience within the UK’s coaster line up.

1. The Swarm

Having opened in 2012, The Swarm is Thorpe Park’s newest coaster at ten years old. It also remains the UK’s only B&M wing coaster. Themed to a post-apocalyptic world in which Thorpe Park is under the attack of a flying alien race, this roller coaster flies riders through multiple near misses such as a devastated billboard, crashed plane wing, explosive fire engine and the rotating blades of an abandoned helicopter. It’s station, themed to look like an abandoned church, is one of my favourites in the UK.
