Movie Park Germany Halloween Horror Festival Review

Movie Park Germany Halloween Horror Festival 2020.

Over the last 7 years we have made Universal Studios Florida and the amazing Halloween Horror Nights our annual pilgrimage to satisfy all our horror needs. Sadly, this incredible event was cancelled this year due to the pandemic and with us living in the UK, travel to the United States is not currently possible. However, we were determined to not let this stop us having a memorable Halloween themed trip. We just needed to find something new to do this year.

After doing much research, we discovered that Movie Park Germany hold a very popular Halloween event. Our decision was made, we were going to Movie Parks Halloween event. Their event, Halloween Horror Festival, is the largest Halloween event in Germany. We had previously enjoyed visiting Movie Park Germany but only ever in the summer months. Tickets to the event must be pre-booked. This year, you must also buy separate tickets for each horror maze at the event.

The event takes place every Thursday to Sunday in October plus on the 1st November and 6th to 8th November. The Halloween offerings start at 6pm and end at 10pm. During the day, child friendly Halloween activities take place between 12pm and 5pm. These include pumpkin carving, trick or treating, face painting and a tour through a spooky haunted house. NICKLAND also remains a scare free zone throughout the whole event.

The park has 7 horror houses and 3 scare zones.

Horror Houses (must be 16+)

– Campout (free but must pre book time slot) [Must be 12+]

– Project Ningyo

– Circus of Freaks

– The Slaughterhouse

– Insidious Chapter 2

– The Curse of Chupacabra

– Hostel

Scare zones

– Horrorwood Boulevard

– Acid Rain

– The Dead West

The houses each cost between 5 and 6 euros. Social distancing is maintained throughout the houses and face masks must be worn in all houses, indoors and in queues. To comply with Germanys COVID rules, you will go round the houses in a maximum group of 8 people. The event was incredibly well organised and felt perfectly safe.

We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the houses. The scare actors at the event are fantastic at their jobs and the set design of the houses are incredibly detailed. In fact, we felt that many of the events houses met the same high standards of the houses we are used to at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. By going through the houses in small groups, we found the houses scarier than those at Universal. We were particularly impressed by Project Ningyo, Hostel and The Curse of Chupacabra.

The events three scare zones were also very impressive. Our favourite zone was Acid Rain as we liked the high energy and chaotic feeling of the area. The actors within their zones were very interactive with the parks guests. They also used some novel scare techniques, such as scraping metal chains across the floor, which we would like to see implemented at other Halloween events.

The park also has a live DJ play from 6-10pm. The high energy music and impressive stage lighting created a great atmosphere, allowing guests a break from the scares and a time to party.

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Movie Park Germany Halloween Horror Festival. The greatest praise we can give the event is that we left the park feeling like we had been at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. If you get the opportunity, this year or next, we highly recommend that you check out this event. If you’re a fan of horror then you will love this event. We’ll definitely be going back to the event next year.

Thanks for reading.
