Walt Disney’s Bowling Alley – Celebrity Sports Center Denver

In 1959, Walt Disney and a group of Hollywood celebrities—including Jack Benny, Bing Crosby, and George Burns—teamed up to create Denver’s Celebrity Sports Center, an ambitious indoor entertainment complex unlike anything America had ever seen. With 80 bowling lanes, an Olympic-size swimming pool, slot car racing, bumper cars, fine dining, arcades, and even appearances by Mickey Mouse, it was often described as a “Disneyland under one roof.” This video dives into the forgotten history of the Celebrity Sports Center, exploring why Disney chose Denver, how it became a prototype for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, its rise as a beloved family destination, and why it ultimately closed in 1994. Though it’s gone, the memories—and Disney’s experimental vision—still live on.
