Top 5 News Stories of the week… MagicBand + to arrive in 2022

MagicBand + set for 2022….

Each week we select the five biggest new stories impacting the global world of theme parks and give a brief summary of each story. The stories we can cover range from announcements regarding new attractions to the latest innovation by Disney. 

Week- 27th September to 3rd October

5. Walt Disney World kicks off its 50th anniversary celebration

On Friday October 1st Walt Disney World turned 50 years old. To celebrate this huge milestone the resort will be home to an 18 month long celebration which started on Friday and will run throughout 2022 and into 2023.  All four parks are part of this celebration and have been decorated to celebrate this event. New shows, attractions, statues and merchandise are all set to debut over the coming months as part of this celebration.

4. MagicBand + will debut at Disney World in 2022

Disney announced this week that they are set to release a new MagicBand, MagicBand +,  next year. The original Magic Band debuted in 2013 and this new band is set to build on the functionality of the original band. MagicBand + will have a colour changing light, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition. These new features will then work within the park to help increase your enjoyment at the park in brand new ways including;

  • Your band will light up during night-time shows
  • Interact with statues in the parks
  • Play like a bounty hunter in Galaxy’s Edge

Disney are yet to release an exact date for the release of MagicBand + or a price. 

3. Star Wars Galactic Cruiser and Guardians of Galaxy ride opening dates 

Disney  have announced that the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to open at Epcot in 2022. They also announced that the brand new Star Wars hotel at Walt Disney World is set to open March 1, 2022. 

2. Donkey Kong is coming to Universal Studios Japan

A Donkey Kong attraction is set be built in Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan.  The attraction once finished will increase the size of Nintendo Land by 1.7 times. Currently, there is a lack of specifics on what this area or attraction will include but the park aims to have it open by the end of 2024. 

1. New area coming to Alton Towers Scarefest

New for 2021 at Alton Towers Scarefest is Trick O’ Treat Town. In Trick O’ Treat Town every day is Halloween and the towns inhabitants love nothing more than to welcome in Trick-or- Treaters. This new walkthrough area is aimed at both children and adults. Alton Towers Scarefest starts on October 8th
