Top 5 Coasters at Cedar Point

Cedar Point is arguably the number one destination for rollercoaster enthusiasts. With it’s incredibly diverse and well balanced collection of 17 coasters, trying to rank the top five is no easy task. Honestly, I think my rankings change with each visit to the park. However, after a few heated debates, here are what we rank as the top 5 coasters at Cedar Point.

5. Top Thrill Dragster

Top Thrill Dragster is the tallest coaster at Cedar Point standing at 420 ft, also making it the second tallest in the world. The coaster launches guests to a speed of 120mph in 4 seconds. The ride was built by Intamin and cost Cedar Point a whopping $25 million. When the ride opened in 2003 it became the first rollercoaster to pass the 400 ft mark. On rare occasions, the ride might not make it over the top hat and will roll backwards into the station. The ride was designed to handle this, so if it happens when you’re riding there is no need to panic, just enjoy the unique coaster experience.

4. Magnum XL-200

This world famous ‘Arrow dynamics’ coaster is now 29 years old, having opened back in May, 1989. It was the first coaster to have a height greater than 200 ft and remained the tallest coaster in the world until 1994 when Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened Pepsi Max Big One. Magnum is commonly regarded as the coaster that started the famous rollercoaster wars period. This was a period where various theme parks competed aggressively with each other to have the tallest and fastest rollercoaster. These days, Magnum XL-200 might not be the comfiest ride, but it certainly makes up for this in air time.

3. Maverick

Maverick was defined as a terra coaster by Cedar Point, as it mainly stays low to the ground and interacts lots of times with the surrounding landscape. It has two launches and a beyond 90 degree drop. This, combined with multiple inversions, makes Maverick one of the most insane coasters at Cedar Point! Maverick is definitely one of the most intense coasters at the park and definitely not one to be missed.

2. Millennium Force

Being the winner of amusement ticket today’s golden ticket award more than any other coaster, Millennium Force is one of the most hyped up coasters in the world. Whilst some might fear that this could lead to disappointment, there is little chance of anyone being displeased with this coaster. Having opened at the turn of the century, with the first drop over 300ft, Millennium Force has managed to remain at the top of many peoples lists of favourites ever since. Millennium Force is a very fast, powerful yet smooth and comfortable rollercoaster. The ride doesn’t produce a lot of airtime but the coaster makes up for this in speed and large hills and smooth banked turns.

1. Steel Vengeance

This wooden and steel hybrid is Cedar Points newest, and greatest, coaster. It’s the tallest and fastest hybrid coaster in the world with a height of 205ft and a top speed of 74mph. There are also 4 inversions throughout the ride. Personally, I don’t think any coaster is as complete as Steel Vengeance. It delivers pretty much everything you want from a coaster; large drops, sharp twists and turns, compact inversions and an absolutely insane amount of airtime.
