Rumours have circulated for years about the addition of more countries to the World Showcase at Epcot. The last country to be added to the World Showcase was Norway back in 1988. In this article I will put forward three suggestions of countries that I feel would be good additions to the World Showcase.
Greece
Greece is a country full of ancient history and famous landmarks. Athens, the main city in Greece, is an extremely popular tourist destination and is a place full of historic sites and monuments. Replicating some of the famous Ancient Greek monuments in a brand new pavilion at Epcot could certainly make for a stunning new area in a Disney park. Greek food is also extremely popular and the Greek food sold during Epcot’s food and wine festival is always well received. Therefore, I am sure that both a Greek quick service and sit down restaurant would be an exciting new addition to Epcot.
A current trend regarding the future of Epcot seems to involve the addition of more Disney characters into Epcot. Obviously, a Greek pavilion would be the perfect place to add characters from the film Hercules into the park. A new attraction could be built in this land based on the Hercules film. One of the ideas I have for a ride themed to Hercules would be a ride similar to Flight of Passage that simulates flying on the back of a Pegasus.
Brazil
The addition of a Brazilian pavilion to the World Showcase has been strongly rumoured for several years now. Brazil would become the first country from the country of South America to be added to the World Showcase. Brazil is a fascinating and extremely varied country with its major cities, beautiful beaches and rainforest. This huge variety would give Disney’s imagineers a vast amount of options regarding the design of this pavilion. Brazil is very famous for being a colourful country with it hosting many world famous carnivals and parades. This is a particularly good example of an element of Brazil that could be adapted and used to add some colour and sound to the World Showcase.
Trips to Orlando are extremely popular with Brazilian tourists and a huge amount of Brazilians visit the Disney parks each year. I am sure that the many of these Brazilian tourists who visit Epcot would love to see a version of their country added to the World showcase. One thing Disney might have against building this pavilion is that there is no obvious characters that could be placed in this area. However, traditionally speaking, this should not affect Disney’s decision.
Australia
Australia is one of the more obvious additions to World Showcase as its one of the largest countries currently not represented at Epcot. The country has an abundance of famous places, such as Melbourne and Sydney. It is also a country with a huge variety of different landscapes including the unique Australian outback, the breath taking great barrier reef and superb modern cities. Similar to Brazil, this would give Disney’s imagineers a huge amount to work with when designing this pavilion.
One building I would like to see replicated in a similar fashion to the way Disney has replicated monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, is the Sydney Opera House. I feel this would visually be a stunning addition to the World Showcase. This would also be the perfect place to house a new cinema/ theatre style attraction that shows off everything Australia has to offer. This new attraction could use some of the new and unique theatre style attractions that have been advertised at events like the IAAPA expo in the last couple of years.
