Phantasialand Guide

Our Phantasialand Guide will help you plan your visit to the park.

Phantasialand is one of the best theme parks in Europe. The park is well- regarded for its incredible theming and attention to detail. Phantasialand is also home to some of the best attractions in the world.  The park is split into six themed areas; Berlin (with Rookburgh), Mexico, China Town, Mystery (with Klugheim), Fantasy (with Wuze Town) and Deep in Africa. In an average year, nearly two million people visit Phantasialand.

Phantasialand first opened in 1967 and was built on the site of an old brown coal opencast mine. The park initially consisted of a train ride, pony rides and a Western Express. The park was the project of two childhood friends, a businessman (Gottlieb Loffelhardt) and a puppeteer (Richard Schmidt).

Location

Phantasialand is located in Bruhl, North Rhine- Westphalia, Germany. Phantasialand is located approximately 25 minutes from the large German city of Cologne. Phantasialand is easy to reach by train thanks to the convenient connection of the Phantasialand shuttle buses to the KVB stop of line 18 “Brühl Mitte” and the DB station “Brühl (Rheinland)”. Time needed at Phantasialand

Phantasialand is certainly a full day park. If it’s your first visit to the park and you want to ensure that you can fully experience all the attractions, the incredible theming of the park and everything else on offer then we would advise you to spend two days at the park.

Attractions at Phantasialand

Phantasialand currently operates 7 roller coasters, 4 water rides, 3 thrill rides, 3 dark rides and a variety of other smaller attractions. The stand out coaster at the park is Taron.

Taron is a multi-launch steel  coaster which provides riders with an insane amount of air time and is situated in the incredibly well themed area of the park called Klugheim. In our opinion, Taron is one of the best five coasters in the world. The mixture of thrills combined with the coasters breath-taking interaction with the incredible themed environment it surrounds makes it a bucket list ride for any coaster enthusiast.

Taron, however, is not the only great coaster at the park. F.L.Y., the parks newest coaster, is a fantastically unique launched coaster set within another stunningly well themed area of the park (Rookburgh).

Rookburgh

As well as this, Black Mamba is an excellent inverted coaster and Winja’s Fear & Force is one of the most unique coasters in the world.  Moreover, the park is not just home to world class coasters. Chiapas and River Quest are two of the best water rides in the world. Mystery Castle is a brilliantly spooky enclosed drop tower and Talocan, a Suspended Huss Top Spin, is one of the best themed flat rides anywhere world over.

Another attraction worth mentioning is Maus au Chocolat, an interactive dark ride which, for those familiar with Disney, works in a similar way to Toy Story Mania. Quite honestly, the line-up of fantastic attractions at Phantasialand is enough to rival any theme park.

Phantasialand offers two options when it comes to skip the line passes, the ‘Quick Pass’ and the “Quick Pass Plus”. Quick Pass costs 10 euros and Quick Pass Plus costs 20 euros. The park states that these passes entitle you to access the ride twice as fast as the current standard queue time. The Quick Pass in Phantasialand can be used in two different ways. The number of express accesses varies depending on whether the Quick Pass is used for one person or for two.

Quick Pass for one person : Faster access as an individual to two attractions.

Quick Pass for two people : Faster access for two visitors to one attraction.

Food at Phantasialand

Phantasialand offers an incredible array of dining options for a theme park from quick service dining to table service restaurants. From traditional German cuisine to tasty Chinese dishes, Phantasialand offers something for everyone. Our favourite table service restaurant at Phantasialand is Cocoricco. Located next to the entrance of Talocan, this tapas restaurant offers a great selection of tasty and traditional Mediterranean dishes. On a nice summers day, the outside tables at this restaurant offer a great place to sit down and take a rest from your busy day while tucking into some fantastic food. Another favourite of ours, Rutmor’s Tavern in Rookburgh, is a very cosy restaurant where you can enjoy gorgeous homemade dishes served in cast-iron pans. This Tavern is the perfect place to get a bite to eat on a day at the park in which the weather is not so nice.

Events at Phantasialand

The only annual event which takes place at Phantasialand is Wintertraum, the parks Winter Festival.  During Wintertraum, the park continues to operate nearly all of its attractions including Taron. During the festival, the park is decorated with Christmas lights and a variety of festive items. Christmas music, themed to the area of the park you are in, plays during this period and additional attractions are setup in the park such as an ice rink in the Berlin themed land. This event usually runs from late November to mid- January.

Hotels

Phantasialand operates three on-site hotels; Ling Bao (an Asian themed hotel), Hotel Matamba (an African themed hotel) and Hotel Charles Lindbergh, the park’s newest hotel. All three hotels at the park are highly themed. Ling Bao, the parks only hotel with a swimming pool,  and Hotel Matamba are more traditional hotels compared to Hotel Charles Lindbergh.

The Hotel Charles Lindbergh is a less traditional hotel but one of the best themed hotels we’ve ever experienced. The Steampunk themed hotel is built within the land of Rookburgh and the parks brilliant flying coaster is entangled around the hotel which helps give this hotel its unique feel. The rooms in this hotel are small but highly detailed cabins which house two single beds and a bathroom. Phantasialand designed the rooms like this to try and create a feeling that when staying in the cabins you are genuinely on an aeronautical adventure.

If you don’t want to stay at one of the parks on-site hotels then there are a variety of other hotels located within the area. The cheapest options for accommodation will be found in the nearby town of Bruhl.
