LEGO Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures at LEGOLAND Windsor Review

‘LEGO Mythica’, a brand new area at LEGOLAND Windsor, opened on May 29th 2021. This area cost £20 million, making it the single biggest investment in LEGOLAND Windsor since the park first opened 25 years ago.

‘LEGO Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures’ is home to three attractions, the main attraction of which is ‘Flight of the Sky Lion’. ‘Flight of the Sky Lion’ is the UK’s first flying theatre ride and takes guests through a LEGO portal to soar over the landscape of LEGO MYTHICA. The attraction stands 25 metres tall and features a 4k animated film with synchronised effects. These effects help immerse guests with scents, splashes of water and ocean mist, as they soar alongside Maximus the sky lion. We thought this attraction was a great addition not only to LEGOLAND Windsor, but to the UK in general! It’s wonderful to have a flying theatre attraction so close to home.

‘Fire & Ice Free Fall ‘, two 13-metre tall spinning drop towers, also opened. These drop towers provide great thrills for younger guests to enjoy. ‘Hydra’s Challenge’, once known as ‘SQUID Surfer’, was rethemed to fit the new area. This interactive water attraction allows guests to steer jet powered boats that circle around a 481,000 LEGO brick model of the Hydra Sea Monster. Beware, you will get wet!

Lava Dragon Play

In addition to these two small attractions, there is also  ‘Lava Dragon Play’, an adventure play area, ‘Creature Creation’ which allows guests to design and build their own mythical creatures and the ‘Creature Encounter’, a meet and greet with the character Bits and Bobs.

After all those fun attractions, you’re sure to be feeling pretty hungry! ‘The Hungry Troll’ is a  Fish & Chips restaurant that serves a great selection of traditional Fish & Chip shop food. We enjoyed a delicious portion of chips with a side of curry sauce and sat outside near the water, making it hard to remember we weren’t actually by the seaside! If you’re feeling brave, order a portion of fish bites! Joking aside, don’t be put off by the unusual blue batter, we’ve heard these themed bites are great for seafood fans.

LEGO Mythica also implements Augmented Reality Experiences, which can be accessed in the LEGOLAND App. Guests can scan the LEGO models in the land and watch them come to life. This experience is also able to be used at home, allowing guests to open up a portal to Mythica through the app.  There is also a selection of limited edition POP badges available, all of which can also be scanned to provide an AR look into the world of LEGO Mythica.

Overall, we absolutely loved ‘LEGO Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures’. With the addition of ‘Flight of the Sky Lion’, there’s no denying that LEGOLAND Windsor is home to the greatest selection of indoor attractions in the UK. From ‘LEGO Ninjago The Ride’, to ‘Deep Sea Adventure’, LEGOLAND Windsor is now a truly brilliant park for guests of all ages!
