Rumours have recently resurfaced speculating that a new attraction may be coming to the wonders of the life pavilion at Epcot. The pavilion has been used as a festival centre over the last few years. The roof on the building is currently being refurbished and Disney executives have been spotted surveying the sight in recent days. This has added to the rumours that a new attraction may be coming. Up until 2007 the pavilion featured two main attractions, Body Wars and Cranium Command. The pavilion was originally sponsored by MetLife. The sponsorship with MetLife ended in 2001 and was never replaced. This is probably the main reason that led to the pavilion closing in 2007.
If new attractions were to be added to the pavilion then what could they be. If the pavilion was to stick with its old theme of health and fitness then I feel that characters from the Pixar film Inside Out would be very well suited. Attractions could be designed using the Inside Out characters that would educate guest on how the brain develops over time and how emotions and feelings change as you grow up. This type of attraction, although using characters from an IP, would relate well to the original Epcot concept of educating guests.
Another possibility is that Disney stays away from using any IP and create there own original story for a new attraction. This story could be related to health and the body or it could go in a completely different direction.
When looking at potential changes to this pavilion it should be remembered that Disney have announced plans to build a space themed restaurant next to Mission Space. The pavilion building isn’t directly linked to Mission space but is probably close enough that it could be used as the location for this new restaurant.
It will be interesting to see whether or not any new attractions are added to this pavilion at Epcot. The space inside this pavilion always feels a bit wasted to me. Personally, I would love to see a new attraction be built inside the pavilion.
