In 2001, Disney opened up a second park adjacent to their original Disneyland. As a long awaited expansion to the historic site where Walt Disney’s dreams became a reality, expectations for this park were high. But, a fact I’m sure will surprise no one watching, the second park at the Disneyland resort did not live up to its predecessor upon opening. The tale of how this park failed upon opening and was then built up to success by expansions throughout the 2010s, is a story that has been told many many times. For the sake of context, I will touch upon these improvements, but unfortunately, this is no longer where the story ends. By following California Adventure’s progress up until the present day, the upwards trajectory of the park gets called into question. It seems that Disney’s miraculously saved theme park now has another chapter within its story.
