The Black Mirror Labyrinth has opened at Thorpe Park. This is a live experience, where guests are sent through with just their own party. When in the Labyrinth, you enter the near future as imagined by the popular television show ‘Black Mirror’.
The story of this attraction is that you are there for AI data collection, which of course goes wrong. The employees were great and stayed in character well, talking to guests about the experience in a cold manner as they guided you to the attraction and then took your photo at the entrance.
Within this sensory-defying labyrinth, there are moments which utilise projection mapping to place your name and image on the walls as the story of you being trapped is told. Following this, you enter into a dark mirror maze, within which it is very easy to get lost and it is very hard to not walk into the mirrored walls. There are then strobe lit corridors and more scenes with videos to continue the story. Closed doors slide open as you are guided by the video to move forward and then told to wait and go again.
The Black Mirror Labyrinth is a maze in the most traditional sense, making it extremely easy to get lost, which feels rather intense due to the atmosphere built by the attractions audio and lighting effects. However, it is far from your typical hedge maze. This attraction uses impressive technology to immerse you within the story.
Overall, we thought this attraction is a great addition to Thorpe Park. The park definitely lacks indoor attractions and this is the perfect way to help fill that void. The Black Mirror IP is the perfect choice for Thorpe Park and the thrill seeking audience they wish to attract.
We can’t wait to escape the Black Mirror Labyrinth again!
