Alton Towers- Rollercoaster Restaurant Review

The novelty

If you’re unfamiliar with this concept, then I’m sure you’re probably wondering what exactly a Rollercoaster restaurant is. Thankfully the restaurant isn’t actually on a rollercoaster, as I’m not sure the combination of thrills and food would be a good mix. Instead, the restaurant is full of a complex series of plate size tracks which twist, turn and even loop around the room. Food is sent down this track, tightly packaged to avoid any disasters , and arrives at the correct table. Each person is assigned a seat with a corresponding number and rollercoaster. This is shown on the table in front of them. This allows you to recognise which dish is yours as the plates are carefully marked with this same information when they arrive at your table.

Ordering

A tablet is provided to each group, making ordering simple and fast. Each person presses their seat number and proceeds to order from the various food and beverage options. Everything ordered here arrives via rollercoaster, with the exception of alcohol which is hand delivered and merchandise which can be collected at the end.

The food

Many novelty restaurants see their uniqueness as an excuse to slack in other areas, particularly food. The rollercoaster restaurant however, does not follow this pattern and instead provides a great selection of tasty dishes. The restaurant has a brand new menu for the 2018 season. The tablet menu provides an easily navigated system, separating courses, beverages, alcoholic beverages and a separate kids menu.

Beverages

The restaurant offers the regular options of soft drinks including bottled coke products, water and Capri suns. There is also a fair selection of beer, wine, spirits and even a themed ‘Wicker Man’ cocktail.

Starters

The menu offers a good selection of starters, consisting of the following-
Prawn Cocktail
Chicken Wings
Garlic Mushrooms
Pulled Pork Croquettes
Nacho Bowl (V)
Mozzarella Sticks (V)
Pork Crackling
Popcorn (V)
Garlic Bread (V)

Mains

There is also a fair selection of mains, of which we tried-

WickerMan Stack, a rather spicy selection of chicken which we enjoyed just as much as the park’s new roller coaster. But be warned, this dish might burn!

Sirloin steak, a nicely cooked and high standard, particularly for a theme park, dish.

Ultimate Quorn Burger, a great veggie option with plenty of tasty flavours. Not to mention that it’s topped with a rollercoaster image on the bun! (As are all the restaurants burgers)

Final thoughts

In my opinion, this restaurant is a perfect addition to a great day at Alton Towers. I would highly recommend both the experience and the food to anyone who visiting Alton Towers. This is definitely one of my favourite novelty restaurants at theme parks across the globe. Due to its popularity, I would highly recommend booking online before your visit.
