Voodoo Doughnut Hollywood Review
‘Good things come in pink boxes’…
With the new Voodoo Doughnut shop opening at Universal Citywalk Orlando, we thought we’d take a look back to our summer trip to Universal Hollywood’s Voodoo Doughnut store.
The shop originates from Portland and is recognised by its pink walls and unique Voodoo decor. It’s offerings consist of crazily topped doughnuts using foods such as cereal and maple bacon. These doughnuts are just as photogenic as the shop itself. Both of the Universal locations offer a very similar menu to the original shops. However, they are kept more family friendly by excluding certain, more maturely themed, doughnuts. A selection of vegan doughnuts are also available, making this the perfect location for everyone to satisfy their sweet tooth .
The new Orlando location has an exclusive decoration counter where you can view the doughnuts being topped and iced. Not only this, but a doughnut throne appears to have materialised outside the shop, giving guests the perfect picture opportunity. This all adds to the shops picturesque novelty, as already seen in its pink box and infamous Voodoo doll doughnut.
The doughnuts themselves range in price and size and there are more than 50 types available. Each can be purchased individually, as a box of a dozen or if you’re feeling really hungry a ‘coffin’ option is also available (A three-foot hand-made wooden coffin filled with three We Pick ‘Em Voodoo Dozens or Vegan Voodoo Dozens). The shop also offers a selection of merchandise, so you can express your love of Voodoo Doughnut’s everyday with a shirt, hat or mug (etc.).
Many of the issues we had with the Hollywood location, mainly it’s small size and the long line this caused, appear to have be rectified by the much larger shop in Orlando. Although be warned, this by no means guarantees that the line will be short due to the large popularity of this store.
Another complaint shared by us and many others is the doughnuts being stale and not particularly fresh. However, don’t let this put you off, we might just have got unlucky in Hollywood and hopefully this issue is not true of the shop in Orlando.
The new Voodoo Doughnut store in Orlando is sure to be a huge success. Particularly for those who want to snap a shot of their photogenic food and keep those Instagram likes rolling in!
