Mary Poppins Attraction At Epcot Needs To Be built!

Mary Poppins is one of the greatest, most beloved films of all time. For this reason alone, I have always been surprised by the fact that a major attraction based on Mary Poppins has never been built by Disney. It’s even more surprising to me when you consider that Disney have the perfect place to build a Mary Poppins attraction in the Great Britain pavilion at Epcot. Over the last year a few rumours have circulated suggesting that Disney are finally considering building a Marry Poppins attraction. In this article I will try to give five valid reasons as to why now is the perfect time for Disney to build this attraction and why they need a Mary Poppins attraction.

1. The connection to Walt Disney

There is a strong connection between Walt Disney and Mary Poppins. Not only was Mary Poppins a movie that Walt himself worked on but there is also a fantastic story regarding how Walt came to make this film. It took Walt Disney a long time to get the rights to make the film from the books author P.L. Travers. However, he never gave up as he had promised his daughters that he would make the film. The story of how Walt came to get the rights to make the film is so interesting that a film was made about this. The film Saving Mr Banks, which features Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, gave a great insight into the huge battle Walt had when trying to get the rights for this film.

2. History

Mary Poppins was the only film that Walt Disney worked on to be nominated for “Best Picture” at the Oscars. It’s also known that Walt himself wanted to build a Mary Poppins attraction when he and his team of imagineers were creating plans for Magic Kingdom in Florida. It was proposed that this Mary Poppins attraction would be built in Fantasyland. However, in the end they decided to build Peter Pans Flight due to this ride already being a big hit in Anaheim.

3. Music

The music in Mary Poppins is a large reason why the film was so successful. Still to this day, the songs from the film are some of the greatest and most popular songs to ever feature in a Disney movie. The songs in Marry Poppins were written by the incredibly talented Sherman brothers. Featuring these songs alone in a brand new Disney attraction would pretty much make this attraction an instant classic. Music plays a huge part in Disney attractions and I can think of no better movie soundtrack than that of Mary Poppins to base an attraction around.

4.  Mary Poppins Returns

A sequel to Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Returns, is set to be released in December this year. This film will no doubt remind people of the original film as well as introducing a new generation of people to Mary Poppins. This means that Mary Poppins fanbase will be as big as ever. It also means that Mary Poppins will be more relevant and more in the public eye than it has been since the original films release. Therefore, the next couple of years will be the perfect time for Disney to open a Mary Poppins themed attraction in one of their parks.

5. Overall generational popularity of Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins, like other Disney classics such as Snow White and Pinocchio, is already loved by many generations of people. The film is part of a select group in which every generation since the films release have grown to enjoy and love the film. This, in my opinion, is a huge reason to why a Mary Poppins attraction would be a complete success and most definitely go on to be an absolute classic Disney attraction.
